Breathing problems

I've been reading other people's blogs out there who have children with respiratory problems and it's heartwrenching. We have been so blessed that Katrina has been happy and healthy. But this problem with her trachea, while the doctor is not concerned, is no fun for the parents. It seems to have gotten a little worse today. I don't put her on her back for very long because it seems worse then. But unlike yesterday, today she breathes funny even while sitting and standing sometimes. I'm not sure what triggers it. Sometimes she can laugh or cry and be just fine, but other times her breathing is constricted. Luckily she's been fine when I put her down for naps and bedtime, otherwise I would worry more about her sleeping. Anyway, the doctor said not to worry. I took a little video of her that has her taking several of these weird breaths. I wanted documentation in case we need to go back to the doctor again, since when we took her yesterday she only did it once. At least she doesn't seem at all bothered. Plus, when we took her to the doctor yesterday her oxygen levels were at 100, which is the best. Also, she had a slight fever yesterday, so she could be coming down with a cold or something. The pediatrician did say it would get worse when she was sick.

Oh that sounds scary! That almost made me cry! I can;t imagine how you must feel and even if the doctor said it is nothing to worry about, it is good to at least document it and keep your eye on it a little. She is in our prayers! Love you!

Your idea of taking a video was great. Teh technology was impractical when my boys were younger, but it's so annoying when you child has a problem all day...until you show up at the doctor's. Glad she's okay...and totally cute!

Tori, I feel for you. That is tough on the nerves!

The doctor told us that babies airways are about the size of a pencil and can become easily inflamed, so if she has a cold or something that is not outside the realm of possibility. But fortunately it doesn't always warrant a trip to the doctor. I think doctors always are very careful about this type of thing in babies so young so if they aren't worried it is probably ok.

Oh, and the doctor told us that you know there is a problem if your child can't sleep (because the body is working so hard). If they can sleep just fine then they are usually getting enough oxygen.

I hope some of this made sense. It is not fun to see your child be sick and not know what is going on! But you'll figure it out! You have great instincts!

Hi, I found your blog through Amanda and Brooklyn's blog. I thought I'd send some T&P your way. Your daughter is adorable. Her stridor can be scary, can't it? Wanted to let you know you aren't alone. My baby has some similar problems and believe me, they can get serious. If you're worried that she's not getting the care she needs, get another opinion. Good Luck!

HI ... I agree with Kim. I understand the concern, tho. My baby Ryan is a congested breather and snorer. Has been since Day One. I have taken him to the pediatrician 3 times just to make sure his breathing is OK. Other people have worried about it. But the doctor says it is fine. It's scary I know but I hope and think all will be well with your baby. She is adorable.
